They’re raised in local conditions, helping them adapt more easily to your garden, experience less transplant shock and get off to a strong start. By choosing locally grown seedlings, you’re also supporting local jobs and helping reduce the transport footprint of your garden.
Grown in season: Our seedlings are grown with the seasons in mind, so you can choose the right plants for your garden at the right time of year. Some seedlings, like tomatoes and cucurbits, need protection from frost if planted at the beginning of the season, so be sure to check your local conditions before planting.

Our seedlings are grown at Mahinga Kai Urban Farm in Upper Hutt, part of 4 A Better City Charitable Trust. Mahinga Kai brings together food production, regenerative growing, environmental sustainability and opportunities for people to learn, work and grow.
Led by Juliette, our growing team uses regenerative practices that focus on building healthy, living soil. Because we believe healthy soil grows healthy plants.
But we're growing more than vegetables.
Many of our team members join us on fixed-term contracts, gaining practical gardening skills, experience and confidence in a supportive environment.
So when you take a Weathersfield seedling home, you're helping grow more than food. You're helping grow skills, opportunities and a better future for our community.
